Police urge public to convey aspirations in orderly and peaceful manner
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) has urged members of the public who intend to convey their aspirations on 27 August 2026 to exercise their right to public expression in an orderly, peaceful, and responsible manner.
Head of the Police Public Relations Division, Inspector General Johnny Eddizon Isir, said in Jakarta on Wednesday that the police respect the right of every citizen to express opinions in public.
“We respect the right of every citizen to express opinions in public. We hope that the entire series of activities can take place peacefully, in an orderly manner, and conducive to public order,” Isir said.
He stated that expressing opinions is part of democratic life and a right of every citizen guaranteed by Law Number 9 of 1998 concerning Freedom to Express Opinions in Public.
“Convey your aspirations in a proper manner while continuing to respect the rights and freedoms of others to carry out their activities safely and comfortably. Together, let us maintain and preserve public security and order (kamtibmas),” he said.
Isir said the police are ready to provide services to the public so that the entire series of activities for expressing opinions can proceed in an orderly and conducive manner.
According to Isir, cooperation and awareness from all parties are needed so that the expression of opinions in democratic life can take place properly.
“Freedom of expression must go hand in hand with responsibility. Let us safeguard the democratic space so that it remains healthy, so that every aspiration can be conveyed in an orderly, peaceful, and responsible manner,” he said.
