Police Urge Public Not to Light Firecrackers and Fireworks on Takbiran Night
The Indonesian National Police (Polri) has urged the public not to light firecrackers and fireworks in welcoming Eid al-Fitr. Polri has also reminded the public to conduct Takbiran celebrations without violating regulations.
“On this good occasion, through the National Police Chief, we urge the public, during this Takbiran night celebration, not to engage in making or setting off firecrackers or fireworks,” said the Head of the Public Relations Task Force for Operation Ketupat 2026 and also the Head of PID of the Polri Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Tjahyono Saputro, at the Command Center KM 29 of the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road, North Cikarang, Friday (20/3/2026).
Tjahyono hopes that the public holding Takbiran on the roads will obey traffic rules. Vehicles used for Takbiran, Tjahyono continued, must be used according to their intended purpose.
“We also urge that Takbiran be carried out in an orderly manner and in compliance with existing traffic rules. Do not use vehicles not intended for Takbiran night,” Tjahyono urged.
For the smooth running of worship activities, Tjahyono stated that each regional police command has deployed personnel and refined security strategies tailored to the characteristics and potential risks of each area. “Security has been prepared by the regional commands for mosques or places of worship that will be used during Eid prayers,” he said.
Previously, it was reported that the government has officially set Eid al-Fitr 1 Syawal 1447 Hijriah or Lebaran 2026 to fall on 21 March 2026. This determination was decided based on the results of the isbat session held by the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag).
The isbat session for determining 1 Syawal 1447 Hijriah was held at the Ministry of Religious Affairs office, Jalan MH Thamrin, Central Jakarta, on Thursday (19/3/2026). Minister of Religious Affairs (Menag) Nasaruddin Umar directly led the isbat session.
“Thus, based on the results of calculations and the absence of any reports of the crescent moon being sighted, it is agreed that 1 Syawal 1447 Hijriah falls on Saturday, 21 March 2026,” he stated.
