Police Urge Parents to Increase Supervision: Child Safety Is a Shared Responsibility

The Indonesian National Police has urged parents to pay greater attention to their children. Parents are asked to supervise their children, particularly to ensure they are not present at locations where aspirations are being voiced, as an effort to protect child safety.

Head of Public Relations of the Riau Regional Police, Police Grand Commissioner Akmadi, said parents have an important role in providing understanding and education to children about the risks of being in the middle of an unconducive situation.

“We urge parents to ensure their children are not at protest locations that have the potential for unrest. Their safety is our shared responsibility. Therefore, parents are expected to guide and educate their children so they understand the risks and prioritise their future interests and safety,” said Grand Commissioner Akmadi in his statement on Saturday (29/8/2026).

According to Akmadi, expressing aspirations is a right of the public that is protected and respected. However, children need sufficient accompaniment and understanding so they do not become involved in situations that could endanger their safety.

“Our children certainly have a long future ahead. Do not let them be in places or situations that could potentially endanger themselves. Therefore, the role of parents in providing education, direction and supervision is very important,” he explained.

He also invited parents to build good communication with their children and understand their activities and social environment, especially when there is information about protest activities or the expression of aspirations in a particular area.

“We invite parents to continue communicating with their children, providing understanding that expressing opinions can be done in a good way and in accordance with regulations. The most important thing is that they do not become victims or find themselves in situations that could endanger their safety,” he said.

Grand Commissioner Akmadi stressed that protecting child safety requires the role and cooperation of the police, families, the community and all parties.

“Child safety is our shared responsibility. Let us protect our children, guide them and educate them for the sake of their future. Do not let the desire to join in actually lead them into a detrimental situation,” he concluded.
