Police Urge Parents to Hand Over Fugitive Wanted for Murder Near SMAN 3 Yogyakarta
Three perpetrators of the murder of a young man initials AA (18) near SMAN 3 Yogyakarta have been arrested. Three other perpetrators are still being hunted. Police urge the parents to surrender their son, who is currently a fugitive.
‘So three perpetrators are still being pursued. We urge their parents to immediately surrender their son, because our country is a law-based state,’ said Jogja Police Chief Kombes Eva Guna Pandia when speaking to reporters, on Wednesday (20/5/2026).
Pandia emphasised that any act that violates the law, especially taking a life, will be processed under the rules. Regarding the three perpetrators who have been secured, Pandia said they were arrested in Cilacap.
‘Thank God, thanks to the prayers of colleagues and all the people, for the stabbing perpetrators near Kridosono, earlier dawn, the Head of Criminal Investigation along with the force joined with Jatanras Polda and managed to secure three suspects in the Cilacap area. One student, two adults,’ he said yesterday.
‘The role of the perpetrators, the executor. The suspects fled there (Cilacap),’ he added.
It is known the street violence near SMAN 3 Yogyakarta or around Kridosono Stadium occurred on Sunday (17/5) early morning. In that incident one person died after being attacked with a sharp weapon.
‘The victim initials AA born in 2008. The incident occurred in the early hours, around 03:30 WIB,’ said Yogyakarta Police Criminal Investigation Unit Commander Kompol Riski Adrian when contacted by reporters on Sunday (17/5).
Adrian explained after the incident the victim was taken to Panti Rapih Hospital. However, the victim was later pronounced dead. Then the body was taken to Bhayangkara Hospital for autopsy.
According to the Public Relations Head of Yogyakarta Police, Iptu Dani Hasan, from preliminary investigations, the case began when the victim and a witness were chased by the suspected perpetrators. Both the victim and the perpetrators rode a motorcycle from Jalan Magelang.
‘When they reached the south gate of SMAN-3 Yka (Yogyakarta) the victim dismounted from the motorcycle and was immediately attacked by the perpetrators with a sharp weapon,’ Dani said.
After the incident, the victim’s friends tried to take the victim to hospital.
‘When the witnesses and the victim reached Jalan I Dewa Nyoman Oka Kotabaru Yogyakarta, the victim fell. Then he was helped by residents and taken to the hospital using a church ambulance,’ he added.
