Police upbeat about Beng Seng murder

JAKARTA (JP): City Police Chief Maj. Gen. Mochammad Hindarto
said here yesterday that it is only a matter of time before he
and his men capture the mastermind behind the killing of
entertainment businessman Nyo Beng Seng.

"For us, the confession from two suspects arrested earlier is
already enough and it is only a matter of time before we get the
architect of the killing," Hindarto said.

However, the two-star general, who is also a former head of
the City Crime Investigation Directorate, refused to reveal the
identities and whereabouts of the suspects.

He decided to remain tight-lipped when asked whether the
plotter was Hong Lie or A lay, the two names which have been
frequently mentioned by many local papers in connection with the
murder which took place seven months ago.

"The murderers carried out their task at the request of the
plotter, that 's all," he said, without explaining the motives
behind the killing.

Beng Seng, alias Darmansyah Suyadi, 57, was savagely stabbed
to death 12 times in the middle of the night on April 15 this
year by at least four masked men in front of his second wife's
mansion on Jl. Pluit Kencana Raya 128 in North Jakarta.

The two people arrested on Thursday evening by senior
detectives of the City Police Crime Investigation Directorate are
believed to have played a significant role in the stabbing.

The two, identified as Sudartono, 40 and Agiono, 36, were
picked up just after disembarking a Singapore flight at Soekarno-
Hatta International Airport.

In a related development, senior city police detectives and
officers from the prosecutors office came to the scene of the
murder yesterday to further study any details of the place before
holding a re-enactment of the killing.

Reliable sources at the location said that the officers
photographed the house and other related items such as a Mercedes
Benz, in which the victim was attacked by the masked murderers.

The sources, who asked not to be identified, said that the
officials also brought Beng Seng's first and second wives to the
house.

Suara Pembaruan quoted police sources as saying yesterday that
the city police have asked the immigration office to ban Beng
Seng's second wife, Tuty, from traveling abroad, as she might
also be a suspect in the killing of her husband.

When contacted for confirmation, City Police spokesman Lt.
Col. Bambang Haryoko said: "So far, I've no idea about the ban."

But, Bambang said, the police could arrest Tuty if there is
any indication of her involvement. If she were overseas the
police, through several procedures, could bring her in with the
cooperation of Interpol officers and the Indonesian embassies.
