Police Uncover Synthetic Marijuana Ring in Bekasi, Two Suspects Arrested
The Bekasi City Metro Police have uncovered a case involving the distribution of narcotics known as Gorilla tobacco or ‘sinte’. Two suspects were arrested in the operation.
Head of the Narcotics Unit at the Bekasi City Metro Police, Commissioner Untung Riswaji, stated the case was uncovered on Thursday (6/8) at around 03.00 WIB in Jatimulya Village, South Tambun District, Bekasi Regency. He affirmed the commitment to eradicating drugs in the area.
‘The Narcotics Unit of the Bekasi City Metro Police will continue to eradicate the illicit trafficking of narcotics,’ Commissioner Untung said in a statement on Sunday (9/8/2026).
Untung explained the investigation began with monitoring an Instagram account suspected of selling sinte. Initial findings revealed transactions and a delivery address for the illicit goods.
‘Based on this development, at 03.00 WIB, the team successfully secured a woman with the initials MRS. A mobile phone and a bank book used as a means of transaction were seized from the suspect,’ he said.
From interrogation, MRS admitted to only being the recipient of transfers and managing the account. The individual producing and supplying the synthetic tobacco was identified by the initials RR.
Subsequently, at 03.30 WIB, the Narcotics Unit team conducted further investigation and successfully apprehended RR at his rented house on Jalan Melati Jatimulya, Bekasi.
According to RR’s confession, he had been addicted to methamphetamine since 2024 and switched to using sinte in 2025, which he always purchased via Instagram. The suspect RR consumed it at his rented accommodation.
In the last three months, RR saw how to make sinte on his Instagram account and became interested in producing and selling it to reap profits. With capital of IDR 7 million, RR purchased equipment for sinte production.
‘When securing RR, the team seized evidence in the form of one large package of synthetic tobacco with a gross weight of 424.70 grams and four small packages with a gross weight of 16.40 grams, and one package of regular tobacco,’ he explained.
Police also seized tools used for making sinte, including two digital scales, jars, a measuring cup, a jerry can of solvent alcohol, an electric mixer, 19 packs of plastic clips, and two iPhone units used for transactions.
From the examination, RR admitted to having produced and distributed sinte three times since March 2026 through an Instagram account. For their actions, MRS and RR are charged under Article 114 paragraph (1) of Republic of Indonesia Law Number 35 of 2009 on Narcotics and/or Article 609 paragraph (1) of Republic of Indonesia Law Number 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph (1) of Republic of Indonesia Law Number 35 of 2009 on Narcotics.
‘Both suspects along with all evidence have been secured at the Bekasi City Metro Police for further investigation,’ he added.
