Police Uncover Sexual Predator Through 'Police Goes to School' Programme
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Tanjung Priok Port Police have successfully uncovered and arrested a sexual predator targeting students through the ‘Police Goes to School’ programme implemented within their jurisdiction.
“The school visit programme titled ‘Police Goes to School’, which is being intensified by Tanjung Priok Port Police personnel, has yielded results with the arrest of a sexual predator targeting students,” stated the Chief of Tanjung Priok Port Police, AKBP Alrasyidin Fajri, accompanied by the Head of Criminal Investigation, AKP A. A. Ngurah Made Pandu Prabawa, in Jakarta on Thursday.
Under this programme, police visit schools within the Tanjung Priok Port Police jurisdiction to provide advisories regarding public security and order, while simultaneously gathering important information from students.
This activity has also been intensified to create spaces for discussion between the police and the community. “Through this programme, we are opening channels to convey any information that might disturb public security and order (Kamtibmas),” said Fajri.
According to him, these school visits have proven fruitful. In August 2026, personnel from the Tanjung Priok Port Police, consisting of Community Development officers and female police officers, visited a school in the Muara Angke Port area, North Jakarta.
During the visit, the police received a report from a parent stating that a student’s behaviour had changed drastically since July 2026.
Upon arrest, the suspect, identified as VIJAP, admitted to molesting a 14-year-old student from a school in Muara Angke.
“We conducted an investigation and in-depth study alongside the parents and the school authorities. Ultimately, we managed to uncover this case. We are reporting that a 14-year-old child was sexually exploited,” he said.
The sexual predator suspect admitted to knowing the victim through social media. VIJAP had been grooming and persuading the victim since April 2026.
Three months later, the perpetrator committed the molestation after moving to a boarding house near the victim’s residence.
The suspect faces charges under Article 473, Paragraph 3, Letter A and Paragraph 4 of Law Number 1 of 2024 regarding the Criminal Code (KUHP), with a minimum prison sentence of 3 years and a maximum of 15 years.
Meanwhile, the Head of Criminal Investigation of Tanjung Priok Port Police, AKP A. A. Ngurah Made Pandu Prabawa, stated that communication was the key to solving this case.
He noted that officers participating in the ‘Police Goes to School’ programme build trust with students, teachers, and parents through good and intensive communication.
“First comes communication, which then fosters trust. Once trust is established, the exchange of information begins. This is the result,” he explained.
He urged parents to continue monitoring their children’s activities when using social media. Unmonitored access to social media can create opportunities for communication with individuals who have malicious intentions towards children.
“Supervision is still necessary even though children now have the ability to access various information independently. We will continue to intensify the ‘Police Goes to School’ programme in schools within our jurisdiction,” said Pandu.
