The Cyber Crime Investigation Directorate of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police have uncovered a case involving alleged offences of broadcasting and providing pornographic content via live streaming on social media.

“The case began with a report from officers conducting cyber patrols, which led to a police report filed on 1 May 2026,” said Kompol Immanuel Sinaga, Head of Unit 1, Subdirectorate 2 of the Cyber Crime Directorate at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, during a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday.

He explained that, according to the investigation, the suspect SR operated a social media account using the initial K.

“The suspect is known to have carried out the acts between Tuesday, 28 April 2026, and Thursday, 30 April 2026, in South Jakarta,” said Immanuel.

He described the suspect’s modus operandi, which involved live streaming with other social media users. During the broadcast, the suspect issued a challenge to participants.

“If participants lost the challenge, they were required to perform specific movements for 10 seconds, which then displayed pornographic content,” explained Immanuel.

In addition to gaining popularity, the suspect also earned financial rewards in the form of digital gifts from viewers. These gifts were sent in US dollar amounts via the suspect’s verified email account, which could then be converted into rupiah.

“According to the suspect’s confession, the proceeds from the digital gifts have been withdrawn and transferred multiple times to his DANA digital wallet account,” Immanuel said.

During the arrest, police seized several pieces of evidence, including one mobile phone, one Telkomsel/Simpati SIM card, two social media accounts used by the suspect, and two email accounts. Authorities also secured a screenshot printout of the OTP code for logging into the relevant account.

The suspect SR has been charged under Article 407 (1) of Law No. 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code (KUHP).

“The suspect faces a prison sentence of between six months and 10 years, or a fine ranging from category IV to VI,” Immanuel said.
