JAKARTA – North Jakarta Metro Police have uncovered 15 criminal cases with 26 suspects during the period from January to April 2026. Motorcycle theft (curanmor) was the most common case. Deputy Chief of North Jakarta Metro Police AKBP Rohman Yonky Dilatha stated that the 15 cases consisted of various types, including theft with violence (curat), motorcycle theft, and serious assault. Yonky explained that in handling these cases, they applied several articles, including those related to theft, theft with violence, assault, and emergency laws, with varying prison sentences up to a maximum of nine years. Meanwhile, Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of North Jakarta Metro Police AKBP Awaludin Kanur noted that motorcycle theft cases were the most dominant among those uncovered. He added that the areas most prominent for these criminal cases were around the port and Tanjung Priok. “The areas most prominent for criminal offences are related to curas and brawls. The locations are still around the port and the Tanjung Priok areas,” he revealed. He also explained that in uncovering motorcycle theft cases, the police discovered developments in the modus operandi used by the perpetrators. According to him, this modus was used to deceive the public and the police. Additionally, the perpetrators targeted vehicles with keyless systems because they have a higher resale value. Besides motorcycle theft, Awaludin said they also secured evidence of sharp weapons in the case revelations, which are still widely used in criminal acts. “This is still prevalent, meaning it is still common over the past few months,” he added.
