Police uncover methamphetamine distribution, arrest two in Cakung

The Sunda Kelapa Port Police have arrested two men suspected of being methamphetamine dealers and seized more than 100 grams of the drug from a rented house in Cakung, East Jakarta. “We arrested the two suspects at a rented house in the Cakung area, East Jakarta, on Thursday (22/7),” said Sunda Kelapa Port Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head AKP Ery Suroto on Thursday. He stated the operation was conducted after his unit uncovered a suspicious methamphetamine transaction within their jurisdiction. “We conducted an investigation and development that led to these two suspects,” he said. Officers found that a suspect with the initials MR frequently conducted drug transactions in the Pademangan area and was arrested in the Cakung area on Thursday at around 8:30 p.m. Western Indonesia Time. “Along with MR, we found 10 ready-to-distribute methamphetamine packages stored in his trouser pocket, as well as a mobile phone and cash from drug sales. Officers searched the house and found digital scales,” he said. The suspect MR admitted to obtaining the narcotics from a suspect with the initials WF, prompting officers to wait at the rented house. WF was subsequently arrested there, and officers discovered one large package and one small package of methamphetamine. Both suspects and the evidence were taken to the Sunda Kelapa Port Police station. He stated the total evidence seized consisted of 10 clips of methamphetamine weighing 1.95 grams, one large clip weighing 100.5 grams, one small clip weighing 4.94 grams, and cash amounting to Rp1.8 million and Rp64,000 from drug sales. “Both suspects admitted they had only distributed narcotics three times and used the proceeds for daily needs,” he said. “The two suspects are charged under Article 114 paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 on Narcotics and/or Article 609 paragraph (1) letter a of Law Number 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum prison sentence of 20 years,” he added.
