Police uncover methamphetamine distribution, arrest two in Cakung
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Sunda Kelapa Area Sector Police arrested two men suspected of dealing crystal methamphetamine at a rented house in Cakung, East Jakarta, seizing more than 100 grams of the drug believed to be ready for distribution.
“We arrested both suspects at a rented house in the Cakung area, East Jakarta, on Thursday (22/7),” said the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Sunda Kelapa Area Sector Police, AKP Ery Suroto, in Jakarta on Thursday.
He said the disclosure came after the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Sunda Kelapa Area Sector Police discovered suspicious crystal meth transactions within their jurisdiction.
“We conducted an investigation and further inquiries that led us to both suspects,” he said.
Officers found that a suspect with the initials MR had frequently conducted drug transactions in the Pademangan area, and he was arrested in Cakung on Thursday at around 8.30pm Western Indonesia Time.
“With MR, 10 packets of crystal meth ready for distribution were found stored in his trouser pocket, along with a mobile phone and cash from drug sales. Officers searched the house and found a digital scale,” he said.
The suspect MR admitted to obtaining the drugs from a suspect identified as WF, and officers immediately waited at the victim’s rented house. Officers eventually arrested WF at the premises, where one large packet and one small packet of crystal meth were found. Both suspects and the evidence were taken to the Sunda Kelapa Area Sector Police station.
He said the total evidence found comprised 10 clips of crystal meth weighing 1.95 grams, one large clip weighing 100.5 grams, one clip weighing 4.94 grams, cash amounting to Rp1.8 million, and Rp64,000 in cash from drug sales proceeds from the suspect.
“Both suspects admitted to having distributed narcotics only three times, with the proceeds from sales used for daily needs,” he said.
“Both suspects are charged under Article 114 paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 on Narcotics and/or Article 609 paragraph (1) letter a of Law Number 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code, carrying a maximum prison sentence of 20 years,” he said.
