Police Uncover Illegal Pertalite Business Practices in West Denpasar
The West Denpasar Police Station has uncovered an alleged criminal act of misusing subsidised fuel oil (BBM) of the Pertalite type in the Jalan Imam Bonjol area, West Denpasar. In the case, police secured two men along with hundreds of litres of subsidised BBM suspected to be marketed to several shops.
The Head of Public Relations for the Denpasar Police Resort, IPTU I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya, stated that the uncovering of the case stemmed from intelligence information regarding a suspicious vehicle carrying subsidised BBM in front of Es Teler Sultan, Jalan Imam Bonjol, on Sunday (10/5/2026) around 17:00 WITA.
“Upon inspection, officers found one silver Suzuki APV vehicle containing 52 jerry cans. Twelve jerry cans were still filled with Pertalite, totalling around 384 litres,” said Adi Saputra on Tuesday (12/5/2026).
In addition to the subsidised BBM, police also seized Rp 11.2 million in cash, suspected to be the proceeds from the sale of the BBM.
The two men secured were SI (40), from Madura, residing in the Kebo Iwa area, and SU (34), from Sumenep, temporarily residing in the Abiansemal area, Badung.
Adi explained that based on preliminary examination results, SI is suspected of purchasing Pertalite from several petrol stations in the Tabanan area using jerry cans. The BBM was then collected in the vehicle before being marketed again.
“Meanwhile, the other suspect is suspected of marketing the subsidised BBM to several kiosks and Madura shops in the Denpasar area,” he said.
From the suspects’ confessions, one 32-litre jerry can was sold for Rp 400,000. Police suspect the practice was carried out to gain profits from the subsidised BBM price difference.
In the uncovering, police also confiscated one Suzuki APV vehicle, 52 jerry cans, 384 litres of subsidised Pertalite, and cash proceeds from the sales.
Currently, both suspects are undergoing intensive examination at the West Denpasar Police Station. Police are charging them under Article 55 of Law No. 22 of 2001 on Oil and Gas, as amended by Law No. 6 of 2023 on Job Creation.
