Police Uncover Illegal Logging in Pelalawan, 10 Cubic Metres of Timber Seized
The Pelalawan Police, through the Criminal Investigation Unit’s Tipidter division, have uncovered an illegal logging operation in the Kerumutan District. Approximately 10 cubic metres of processed timber were seized from the site.
The illegal logging practice was uncovered on Thursday (17/7) at around 9:00 PM WIB at the Tasik Pier, Pematang Tengah Hamlet, Mak Teduh Village, Kerumutan District. The discovery stemmed from public information regarding a pile of timber suspected to have originated from a protected forest area.
Following up on the information and coordinating with the Kerumutan Police Criminal Investigation Unit, the Pelalawan Police Criminal Investigation team, led by Unit Head AKP Bayu Ramadhan Effendi, moved to the location. Upon arrival, the team found a pile of processed timber totalling approximately 10 cubic metres. The team then conducted a sweep along the river to search for the perpetrators, but no one was found carrying out timber processing activities.
As a result of the operation, evidence in the form of approximately 10 cubic metres of processed timber was secured. The team subsequently transported all the evidence to the Pelalawan Police headquarters for legal processing and further development. Efforts to sweep the area and investigate the perpetrators are still ongoing.
Pelalawan Police Chief AKBP John Louis Letedara stated that the Pelalawan Police are fully committed to eradicating all forms of forest destruction. The evidence is currently being held at the Pelalawan Police station for further investigation to uncover the owner and the network behind this illegal activity.
‘The discovery of this processed timber is strongly suspected to have come from the Kerumutan Wildlife Reserve area. We will not give any space to illegal logging perpetrators. Let us work together to preserve the forest as the lungs of the world,’ said AKBP John Letedara.
