Police uncover illegal distribution of prescription drugs in Bekasi Regency

The Narcotics Unit of the Bekasi Metro Police has uncovered a case involving the alleged distribution of unlicensed prescription-only drugs in Cibarusah District, Bekasi Regency, West Java. Bekasi Metro Police Narcotics Unit Head, AKBP Hannry Tambunan, stated in Jakarta on Tuesday that the two suspects, identified by the initials BM and AG, were arrested in the Sindangmulya area, Cibarusah District, on Monday (15/6). The case began with community reports expressing concern over the suspected distribution of prescription drugs in the area. Following up on the information, officers immediately conducted an investigation at the location. “Based on information from the public, our members carried out an investigation and successfully apprehended two individuals suspected of being involved in the distribution of prescription drugs without a marketing licence,” he said. From the two suspects, police seized evidence including 540 Tramadol pills, 692 Eximer pills, two mobile phones, several plastic clip bags, a black wallet, and cash proceeds from sales amounting to Rp615,000. Based on initial interrogation results, both suspects admitted to obtaining the supply of these prescription drugs from an individual with the initials AGM. Police are currently pursuing AGM, who has been placed on the wanted list. “We are still developing this case. We are also pursuing the supplier of these drugs,” he said. Currently, the two suspects along with all the evidence have been secured at the Bekasi Metro Police Headquarters to undergo further legal proceedings. Both are suspected of violating regulations concerning the distribution of pharmaceutical preparations without a marketing licence, as stipulated in the Health Law. The Bekasi Metro Police also urged all levels of society to remain active in providing any information, no matter how small, if they become aware of the distribution of illegal drugs or other criminal activities in their neighbourhood to maintain public safety and order.
