Police Uncover Illegal Distribution of Controlled Drugs Using 'COD' System

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Police have uncovered the illegal distribution of controlled drugs using a cash-on-delivery (COD) payment method after apprehending a man, identified by the initials R (38), along with 478 tablets of Tramadol in the Pancoran area, South Jakarta.

“There was only one perpetrator. Because this involved COD, we used a sting operation to secure him,” said the Chief of Pancoran Police, Commissioner Suminto, during a press conference at the South Jakarta Metro Police Headquarters on Monday.

Suminto stated that R was detained on Friday (18/9) afternoon at approximately 17:00 WIB at a bus stop near SMP Negeri 107, South Jakarta.

It was reported that the perpetrator did not operate an open shop to sell the controlled drugs. Instead, transactions were conducted via the COD system after potential buyers contacted him through social media.

“He had already been distributing them. There were sales and proceeds from those sales. He did not open a shop; he only used COD via social media,” he said.

“Various groups of people who already knew his phone number were buying from him. Some bought two or three strips at a time, rather than all at once,” he added.

The proceeds from the sale of the controlled drugs were used by the perpetrator to meet his daily living expenses and were reinvested to purchase more stock for resale.

The COD transaction method emerged following police crackdowns on physical shops previously used for the illegal sale of controlled drugs.

Due to his actions, the suspect faces charges under Articles 435 and 436 regarding the illegal distribution of pharmaceutical preparations and/or controlled drugs. The perpetrator faces a maximum prison sentence of 12 years.
