Police turn to Mega on FBR chief
JAKARTA: City Police officials have submitted a letter, requesting President Megawati Soekarnoputri to allow for an investigation of Al Fadloli El Muhir, a Supreme Advisory Council (DPA) member and also the chairman of the Betawi Brotherhood Forum (FBR), which has been accused of misconduct of late.
"We sent the letter today to enable us investigate Fadloli after having questioned seven FBR members last week," said the City Police spokesman, Sr. Comr. Anton Bachrul Alam, on Monday.
Fadloli, who is also chairman of the Indonesian Democratic Party (PDI) Jakarta chapter, was scheduled to be questioned last Thursday in connection to the vicious attack by FBR members on the Urban Poor Consortium's (UPC) chairwoman Wardah Hafidz and eviction victims while they were staging a peaceful rally at the National Commission of Human Rights (Komnas HAM) office in Central Jakarta on March 28.
Fadloli's lawyer, Suhana Natawilwana, said his client would not comply with the police summons unless the police got an official letter of permission from the President, because Fadloli is a member of DPA. -- JP
