Police Transfer Case of Grace Natalie, Ade Armando Over JK Lecture Video to Metro Jaya

The Criminal Investigation Unit (Bareskrim) of the Indonesian National Police has transferred a case involving politician Grace Natalie and activists Ade Armando and Permadi Arya to the Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya). The case stems from reports filed against them over the uploading of edited video clips of a lecture by former Vice President Jusuf Kalla (JK).

Brigadier General Wira Satya Triputra, Director of General Crimes at Bareskrim, stated that the transfer was made because the locus, tempus, and subject matter of the report matched an existing case already being handled by Polda Metro Jaya. ‘We transferred it so it could be consolidated. Since the locus, time, and object of the case are the same, we unified the handling,’ he said in South Jakarta on Wednesday. He assured that Bareskrim would continue to assist and back up the regional police in the investigation.

Previously, an alliance of approximately 40 Islamic mass organisations reported Ade Armando, Permadi Arya, and Grace Natalie to the police. The alliance’s legal representative explained that the three individuals uploaded incomplete clips of JK’s lecture to their social media platforms between 9 and 13 April 2026. The clips focused on JK’s discussion of the Christian concept of martyrdom, but the alliance argued that JK was actually addressing the psychological dangers of misunderstanding religious teachings, not the teachings themselves. The edited videos allegedly omitted this context, leading to negative conclusions and causing unrest among religious communities.
