Police told to reveal graft case
BANDA ACEH: Aceh Singkil Regent Makmur Syahputra on Tuesday asked police to finish investigations into an Rp 4 billion (US$400,000) corruption case allegedly involving several local officials.
"The case is a big disaster and the most serious offense for me during 2001," he said in Banda Aceh.
At least two officials, including a local district legislator, and a businessman have been detained as suspects for their alleged role in the embezzlement of the state funds.
The police have also confiscated five luxury cars from the businessman.
The graft case was first revealed last October after Aceh's supervisory board released the findings of its investigation into the regency administration's finances.
The three suspects are charged with colluding in the misuse of the state money for foreign exchange business deals. -- Antara
