Police to Summon Alphard Owner and Security Guard Over Viral Traffic Light Incident
The Directorate of Traffic Law Enforcement (Gakkum) of the Metro Jaya Regional Police will summon the owner of a Toyota Alphard and a security guard for questioning after a video went viral showing the luxury vehicle running a pedestrian crossing light and allegedly using a fake number plate in Central Jakarta. The Head of the Gakkum Sub-directorate, AKBP Ojo Ruslani, explained that in addition to the vehicle owner, the police are also summoning the security officer who was involved in a dispute with the Alphard driver at the scene. “I will issue a summons for clarification to the Alphard owner, and also a summons for clarification to the security guard who argued with the driver. The summonses are scheduled for Friday (24/7) and Monday (27/7),” Ojo said in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday. Ojo explained that the investigation was launched following a viral social media post showing the luxury car running a pedestrian crossing light. After the initial separate examinations, both parties will be brought together for a confrontation process at the Gakkum Sub-directorate office. “The deepening process will cover all aspects of the incident, from the chronology of events and the validity of the vehicle’s documents and number plate, to the determination of traffic violation and criminal articles that can be charged,” he said. He also committed to acting neutrally and transparently as a mediator in handling this case without favouring either party. “The police must not appear biased. The Alphard driver, if there is a violation, must receive a sanction. Likewise, the security guard, if there is indeed a violation, must also receive a sanction, at least a warning,” said Ojo. A video previously circulated on the Instagram social media account @jakpus24jam.id showing a Toyota Alphard appearing to run a red light and arguing with a security guard.
