Police to submit file in council case

BOGOR: West Java Police detectives have completed the case files on 16 Bogor Council members suspected of accepting Rp 1.2 billion (US$134,831) in bribes to approve the annual report of Regent Agus Utara in November 2002.

"We will submit the case files to the West Java Prosecutor's Office soon," chief of detectives Comr. Suwarto was quoted as saying by Antara news agency on Wednesday.

The suspects were members of the council's special team on the regent's report. Two of them have since been replaced by their faction.

The investigation, which began last year, found that the money used to pay the alleged bribes came from the regency budget.

The regent and his deputy are witnesses in the case. --JP
