The investigation process regarding the 11 babies evacuated from a house in Pakem, Sleman, is still underway. In the near future, investigators will conduct an analysis and evaluation, as well as a case review, to conclude whether any criminal acts occurred in this incident.

The Head of Criminal Investigation at Sleman Police Resort, AKP Mateus Wiwit Kustiyadi, stated that his team had already processed the crime scene at the baby custody location. He explained that the main site is in the Gamping area, while the house in Pakem was only a temporary custody spot.

“Yesterday, we found it in the Gamping area and we have already processed the scene there,” said Wiwit to reporters on Tuesday (12/5/2026).

He explained that the scene processing was carried out to assess the suitability of the place for caring for the 11 babies. The results of the scene processing and witness statements will form the basis for the police to determine whether or not there is a criminal act.

“The results of the scene processing will then be analysed and evaluated, and there are also other statements that we have gathered to review; we will analyse whether there is a legal violation or what legal construction we will apply,” he emphasised.

To date, the police have examined 13 witnesses, including 8 parents of the babies and the rest midwives and caregivers.

Wiwit assured that ORP holds a midwifery practice permit. However, regarding child custody, he will still coordinate with relevant agencies, including professional organisations.

“We will first coordinate with the Indonesian Midwives Association, with the licensing authorities, of course, to see if this falls under a separate business or still under the midwifery permit category,” he said.

Meanwhile, ORP’s midwifery practice is located in Modinan, Banyuraden, Gamping, Sleman. That house is said to be the location for births and the holding area for the 11 babies before they were moved to Pakem.

The midwifery practice is still operating as usual. One of the staff said that midwife ORP was not yet available for interview.

Landlord’s Statement

The place used as the practice location is rented from a resident named Marwoto (60). He said that the house has been rented for the last year.

“Approximately one year of renting,” said Marwoto on Tuesday (12/5/2026).

As far as he knows, midwife ORP runs a practice like other midwives in general.

“No problem, it’s safe. The practice is fine, but safe. That’s what they say,” he stated.

Regarding the presence of a dozen babies in the house, as far as he knows, it was because they had not yet been picked up by their parents.

“That’s it, that’s as far as I know. But before being picked up, they were entrusted there, that’s what I know. But for other things, I don’t know either,” he said.
