Police to shut shop selling porn VCDs

PAREPARE, South Sulawesi: Parepare Police in South Sulawesi would soon close down a shop found copying and selling a pornographic VCD of a student couple from Bandung, West Java, an official said on Monday.

Amiruddin, a legal officer at the Parepare administration, said the closure was a strong warning for Pondok Indah photo studio, which had illegally duplicated the pornographic VCDs.

He said the local police had seized a set of 30 porn VCDs produced by the shop during a recent raid, adding that the owner of the studio, identified only by his initials W.I.L., had been arrested for questioning.

If proven guilty of violating laws on duplication, the suspect would have his shop's license revoked, Amiruddin said.

Many people were shocked last month by the circulation of porn VCDs depicting two naked students in Bandung involved in sexual intercourse. The VCDs have sold for between Rp 50,000 and Rp 100,000 each in Jakarta and other cities and the demand for them has risen. --Antara
