Police to quiz model about Tommy

JAKARTA (JP): City Police detectives issued a summons on
Friday for 27-year-old model Lani Banjaranti, in connection with
the whereabouts of former president Soeharto's youngest son,
Hutomo "Tommy" Mandala Putra.

"Lani is scheduled to be questioned next Monday. We suspect
she knows where Tommy is," city police chief of detectives Sr.
Comr. Harry Montolalu told reporters on Friday.

Police have raided Lani's residence on Jl. Dempo in
Pegangsaan, Menteng, Central Jakarta, at least three times.

Sources have indicated that Lani is Tommy's former girlfriend
whom he dated in the early 1990s.

Harry said earlier this week at city police headquarters that
Lani was suspected of either harboring Tommy or knew his
whereabouts.

Sources also claim that Lani moved into the house on Jl. Dempo
less than a year ago. She apparently owns three luxury cars.

The youngest son of former president Soeharto, Tommy, a 38-
year-old businessman, was sentenced to 18 months in jail for
corruption last September. He fled in November and has been on
the run since. (ylt)
