Police to Question Three DPRD Members Over Intimidation of Doctor Icha
The East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Regional Police are scheduled to examine four individuals reported in connection with the death of Doctor Eliza Princita Utami Pakaenoni, known as dr. Icha, on Tuesday (14/7/2026), after a postponement from the previous day. The four individuals are three members of the Timor Tengah Utara (TTU) Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), namely Therensius Lazakar from Golkar, Norbertus Tubani from PKB, and Veronika Lake from PDIP, along with a veterinarian who is a civil servant at the TTU Livestock Service, Maria Mathildis Sau. They are suspected of intimidating dr. Icha.
The Director of General Criminal Investigation at the NTT Regional Police, Commissioner Sigit Haryono, stated at the NTT Police Headquarters on Monday (13/7/2026) that the examination was postponed at the request of the reported individuals’ legal counsel. ‘Today we were supposed to examine the reported parties. However, they were unable to attend today, so it was postponed,’ he said. The examination is now scheduled to proceed on Tuesday.
According to Sigit, the joint investigation team is working intensively, having already examined 32 witnesses. Of these, 27 witnesses were questioned at the TTU Police Station, including healthcare workers from Leona Kefamenanu Hospital, a patient who was bitten by a snake, and other patients who were handled by dr. Icha after the alleged intimidation incident. The remaining five witnesses, who are family members of dr. Icha, were examined at the NTT Regional Police Headquarters.
Sigit added that the police will also seek testimony from experts in psychology, victimology, criminology, and criminal law. A conclusion on whether the criminal acts of intimidation and threats occurred will only be reached after these expert witnesses are examined and a case review is conducted. ‘We are still gathering information and securing evidence from the 32 witnesses,’ he explained. He assured that if no criminal act is proven, the police will announce the findings openly and professionally to the public, given the high level of public attention the case has attracted.
