Police to probe burning of records
MANILA (AFP): President Fidel Ramos has ordered the Philippine National Police to form a special task force to investigate the burning of the records of a suburb of this city, a palace statement said yesterday.
Ramos said the task force should determine "who is the mastermind" of the fire at the Kalookan City Hall which was set by seven armed, masked men in military fatigues on Saturday.
The fire destroyed the local offices of the government's audit commission, including records that would have been used in an investigation into disbursements by the city government.
Although the town hall is right beside the police station, the police say they did not notice the masked men going in.
