Police to get Australian patrol ships
JAKARTA: National Police Chief Gen. Da'i Bachtiar left on Wednesday for the Australian city of Perth to meet with representatives of the Australian Federal Police (AFP), over the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on dealing with transnational crimes.
Police deputy spokesman Brig. Gen. Edward Aritonang added that during the two-day visit, Da'i and representatives of the AFP would discuss the necessary measures to be taken against people- smuggling and other transnational crimes.
"The Indonesian police chief will also be receiving five police patrol ships in Australian aid, which is part of the commitment made by Australian Prime Minister John Howard. Members of the Indonesian Police will also be conducting training in Australia," Aritonang said. -- JP
