Police to get 100 new patrol vans

JAKARTA: Jakarta Police say it will get 100 new patrol vans in June.

The 100 vans were part of a total of 300 new vans the police would receive, Senior Commissioner Anton Bachrul Alam said on Monday.

The first 100 vans, a donation from the city administration, are South Korean-made KIA Carens, equipped with global positioning systems (GPS), he said.

The operation of the new vans was aimed at improving security in Greater Jakarta, he said.

Some 3,500 policemen have been trained to operate the patrol vans, he said, adding that both the Jakarta Police and the city administration had provided funds for the operation.

Anton, however, did not say when the remaining 200 vans would start operating. --Antara
