Police tape remains around the Trans Home building-supplies supermarket on Jalan Jogja-Solo, Kalitirto, Berbah, Sleman, in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. The store caught fire in early October 2026, killing two female employees. Investigators are continuing their inquiry to establish the cause.

“Investigators are still looking into the incident. A crime-scene examination is planned for the coming weeks,” Sleman Police public relations chief First Inspector Argo Anggoro told detikjogja by telephone on Monday (12 October 2026).

Argo said various steps had been taken, including preparations for the examination, which will involve the INAFIS team. He did not specify when it would take place.

“The INAFIS team will be involved. The owner of Trans Home has also been questioned,” Argo added.

Kalitirto village head Ari Hadi said residents’ activities and conditions in the surrounding area had returned to normal, but the store had not reopened.

“It is not operating yet. But I have heard that a temporary office has been set up,” he said.

A detikjogja visit found police tape still surrounding the store, with its metal gates firmly closed. Soot remains on the building, and there was no activity inside. A few security guards were stationed on the road in front of the shop.

Aan, who lives across the road, said there had been no activity at the store since the fire was extinguished. The smoke had cleared.

“There is no more smoke, including from the basement, where the fire had previously been difficult to put out. Firefighters remained on guard for several days after the incident,” he told detikjogja.

The fire broke out at the Trans Home building-supplies store on Jalan Jogja-Solo, Kalitirto, Berbah, Sleman, at about 1pm on Thursday (1 October).

“It was around 1pm. The cause is not yet known; firefighters are still tackling the blaze,” Kalitirto village head Ari Hadi told detikjogja that afternoon.

Fire engines from Yogyakarta, Sleman and Klaten were deployed to extinguish the fire, prompting the closure of part of Jalan Jogja-Solo. Traffic was diverted to an alternative route.

Two female employees died in the blaze. A joint search-and-rescue team found them inside the building.

“When we found them, they had stopped breathing and had no pulse. We then took them to Bhayangkara Hospital,” said Dedi Prasetyo, coordinator of the Sleman standby unit of the Yogyakarta Search and Rescue Agency, at the scene on Thursday evening.

“We coordinated and carried out the evacuation after receiving initial information that two people were trapped inside. First, we had to ensure the area was safe from fire and smoke before evacuating the victims,” he said.

Dedi said the two victims were evacuated in 15 minutes. “The first was evacuated in about eight minutes, and the second in about seven, making 15 minutes in total. They were found on the third floor, close together near the stairs,” he said.

“The victims were identified as Ms W and Ms S. The cause of the fire has not yet been established; we will coordinate with the police,” Dedi added.
