REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Polri stated that it will conduct an evaluation following the demand from the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) to withdraw the Brimob unit from civilian security roles. The proposal was made after the incident involving a Brimob officer who allegedly assaulted a child to death.

“It is true that there are weaknesses, and we acknowledge this. These are individual actions,” said the Head of the Public Relations Division of Polri, Irjen Pol. Johnny Eddizon Isir, at the Polri Public Relations Division building, Jakarta, Wednesday.

Polri, he said, is grateful and appreciates every input and criticism conveyed by the public. This criticism will be used as material for evaluation and improvement in the future.

However, he said that the involvement of Polri Brimob members in regional units, especially in eastern Indonesia, still greatly assists local police precincts and regional police.

“Of course, what the Polri Brimob officers do is also in collaboration with regional units to ensure security, maintain social order, and ensure safety,” he said.
