Police to Establish New Suspect in Nizam Abuse Case
Sukabumi Police are preparing to establish new suspects in the case of Nizam Sapei (NS), a 12-year-old who died allegedly following abuse by his stepmother in Sukabumi, West Java.
Sukabumi Police Chief AKBP Samian explained that the police are currently reprocessing two of three reports in the case. These include a complaint filed by Lisnawati, Nizam’s biological mother, against her former husband AS, and a report filed by AS, Nizam’s biological father, against his second wife TR.
According to Samian, AS had previously reported his second wife in 2024 on suspicion of abusing NS. The report was withdrawn but is now being reprocessed.
“Because there was a statement of withdrawal of reconciliation, and also repeated actions, we have escalated the investigation and we will certainly conduct proceedings to fulfil the elements necessary for suspect designation,” Samian stated.
This statement was made by Samian during an audience session at Commission III of Parliament discussing the death of NS, for which stepmother TR has now been established as a suspect.
Beyond the report filed by Nizam’s father against his second wife in 2024, Samian revealed police are also processing a third complaint filed by Lisnawati, Nizam’s biological mother. Lisnawati reported her former husband AS on suspicion of being complicit in the abuse of NS. The report was filed on 24 February, several days after Nizam’s death on 18 February.
However, all parties mentioned in the reports have not yet been questioned. Samian considered the grieving situation but assured that the process would continue and proceed to formal investigation status.
“We have conducted extensive preliminary investigation and gathered evidence. We will soon escalate the process to formal inquiry status,” Samian stated.
