Police to detain more riot suspects

JAKARTA: Police will arrest three more suspects immediately following the detainment of 10 people allegedly involved in a riot in Kaur regency, Bengkulu last month.

National Police spokesman Insp. Gen. Aryanto Boedihardjo said that Bengkulu Police so far had arrested 10 people and would arrest three more.

"Actually we suspected that there were 12 more people involved in the riot and we are planning to question them first," Aryanto said.

The riot was caused by some 10,000 people protesting the result of the recent regental election that resulted in the victory of Syaukani Saleh and Warman Suwardi as Kaur regent and deputy regent.

Bengkulu Police had previously detained losing candidates Yusirwan Wanie and Sahlan Sirad for allegedly inciting the riot that caused extensive damage to several government offices in Kaur. -- JP
