Police to Deploy Forensic Laboratory to Investigate Pullman Hotel Fire in West Jakarta

The police have announced that they will deploy a Forensic Laboratory (Labfor) team to investigate the cause of the fire that struck the Pullman Hotel in the Tanjung Duren Selatan area, West Jakarta, on Saturday morning (1/8). As of now, the exact cause of the fire remains unconfirmed.

The Chief of Grogol Petamburan Police, AKP Reza Aditya, stated that the Indonesia Automatic Fingerprint Identification System (Inafigu) team from the West Jakarta Metro Police had already arrived at the scene to conduct an initial inspection. “For the time being, the cause [of the fire] is not yet known for certain. The forensic team will subsequently be deployed to the location,” Reza said in Jakarta on Saturday.

Reza added that the results of the further investigation by the forensic team would be announced once the on-site process is complete. He noted that while the Inafis team from the District Police has already visited the site, the forensic experts would follow to provide more detailed information.

The fire was reported on Saturday morning at the hotel located in the Grogol Petamburan area. The West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat) responded swiftly after receiving the report at 07:59 WIB. “We dispatched officers just one minute after the report was received,” said the Head of West Jakarta Gulkarmat, Syaiful Kahfi.

A total of 14 fire engines and 70 personnel were deployed to the scene to extinguish the flames. The firefighting operation began intensively at 08:05 WIB, and the fire was successfully contained within a short period. Since 08:15 WIB, officers have been conducting cooling processes to ensure no remaining hotspots could trigger a secondary fire. The incident response status is currently categorised as ‘yellow’.

There has been no official statement regarding the total material losses resulting from the incident. However, preliminary suspicions from the Fire and Rescue Service suggest that the fire may have been triggered by electrical issues. Police and firefighters remain on-site to ensure the investigation and handling are fully completed.
