Police to Crack Down on Illegal Parking in Monas Area During May Day

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Director of Traffic (Dirlantas) of Metro Jaya Police, Kombes Pol Komarudin, stated that there will be firm action against illegal parking in the Monas area, Central Jakarta, during the International Labour Day or May Day celebrations on Friday (1/5). “The Traffic Law Enforcement Task Force (Satgas Gakkum) will already be deployed starting this afternoon until tomorrow to anticipate such matters,” said Kombes Pol Komarudin in Jakarta on Thursday. His side has coordinated with cross-sectoral parties, including the Law Enforcement Task Force (Satgas Gakkum) in anticipation of any potential disruptions to the event’s smooth running. He also requested that the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency provide parking pockets for demonstration participants coming from various regions to join the celebrations in the Monas area. According to him, several roads around Jalan Benyamin Sueb will be used as parking pockets for participants coming from the West Java area. He said that if the area is insufficient, there are reserve parking pockets in the North Jakarta area and around Ancol. “However, Ancol cannot be maximised considering it’s a holiday, there might also be many visitors going to Ancol,” he said. Then for participants coming from Central Java and East Java, vehicle parking pockets will be prepared in the Aldiron Pancoran area. “Later, please drop off at Monas, then the empty vehicles we will park in Pancoran,” he said. For masses from Banten, Lampung, Tangerang and surrounding areas, parking pockets are prepared around GBK. “Starting from the East Parking pocket, APEC, then the ring road can also be used. And additionally later around Jalan Asia Afrika in the gate one basin,” said Komarudin. The total number of workers expected to participate in the International Labour Day event in the Monas area is around 200,000 people, about 4,000 bus units and 20,000 motorcycle units that will enter Jakarta for the labour day commemoration tomorrow.
