Police to Conduct Psychiatric Test on Suspect in South Jakarta School Bomb Threat
The Metro Jakarta Selatan Police will conduct a psychiatric examination on MY, 34, the man suspected of carrying out a bomb terror at SDN Srengseng Sawah 15 Pagi in Jagakarsa. MY was arrested by police on Monday (13/7/2026).
Acting Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at the Metro Jakarta Selatan Police, First Inspector Alpino De Tech, explained that the psychiatric test is a crucial part of the investigation into the incident, which caused panic on the first day of the school orientation programme (MPLS). “Yes, that is correct, we will conduct a psychiatric test,” Alpino said at the South Jakarta Police headquarters on Monday (13/7).
He explained that MY is still undergoing intensive questioning by investigators. Alpino noted that MY’s status remains as a witness. The suspect was apprehended without resistance at 12.20 WIB in Gang Kidan, Srengseng Sawah Village, Jagakarsa. “For now, he is still a witness; we will provide further updates at a later opportunity,” Alpino added.
The bomb threat incident at SDN Srengseng Sawah 15 Pagi occurred on Monday (13/7) morning at around 07.30 WIB, while students and teachers were holding the MPLS opening ceremony. The threat was sent via WhatsApp message to a first-grade teacher and a school administrative staff member. In the message, the perpetrator threatened to detonate bombs at 11 locations within the school compound. The perpetrator also warned the school not to report the incident to the police. However, the school immediately coordinated with security forces to ensure the students’ safety.
The Metro Jakarta Selatan Police, upon receiving the report, instructed that all students be sent home. A bomb disposal team (Gegana) was also deployed to the location to conduct a thorough sweep to secure the school area. In addition to focusing on the legal aspects, the police are also addressing the psychological impact on the students who witnessed the panic during the incident. The PPA-PPO Directorate of the Metro Jaya Police is scheduled to visit the school to provide psychological support. “Tomorrow, the PPA-PPO Directorate will come to the school to conduct trauma healing for the children,” Alpino concluded.
