Police to Conduct Psychiatric Evaluation on Taufik Hidayat, Who Held Woman Captive for 3 Years in Bandung
Police have arrested Taufik Hidayat (30) for holding captive and torturing his girlfriend, identified as YTR (29), in Bandung, West Java. Following his arrest, authorities plan to conduct a psychiatric evaluation given the heinous nature of his actions against his partner.
Taufik was apprehended by a joint team from the West Java Regional Police at a housing complex in Bandung Regency on Tuesday evening (24/6). His hiding place was uncovered after police tracked transactions made by the suspect.
“God willing, tomorrow we will continue the examinations of the person concerned, including involving several experts, psychiatric experts, so that we have initial data on the suspect’s mental condition. Because what he did, as you all know, is something abnormal, something outside the usual behaviour of a person towards their partner, which we can describe as too… or sadistic,” said West Java Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Setiawan, as quoted by detikJabar on Wednesday (24/6/2026).
After his arrest, Taufik underwent a medical examination and a urine test. Although the drug test results came back negative, the suspect admitted to frequently consuming a black wine-type alcoholic beverage called Intisari before committing acts of violence against the victim.
“Intisari, that drink. An alcoholic drink, yes. A brand of alcoholic drink called Intisari, a type of black wine. The conclusion is that the suspect is in good health and ready for detention and initial examination,” Rudi stated.
Given that the suspect’s actions are considered extremely cruel and abnormal, the police plan to involve psychiatric experts in the further investigation process.
