Police to arrest suspect in SLB child abuse case after two missed summonses
West Jakarta Police have indicated they will arrest the suspect in a Special Needs School child abuse case after he failed to respond to two summonses without valid reason during the investigation. Kompol Nunu Suparmi, Head of the Women and Children’s Crime Unit (PPA) at West Jakarta Police, stated the action would be executed following procedure as the suspect continues to ignore police summonses or refuse cooperation. “(To date), the summons process is still ongoing,” Nunu said in Jakarta on Sunday. Nunu explained the police have sent summonses to the suspect during the investigation into the alleged abuse of a student at Kalideres’ Special Needs School. However, even after the second summons, the suspect failed to appear for questioning. “(There was) no reason given for missing the questioning,” Nunu said. Therefore, Nunu confirmed the police are considering arrest measures. “Forceful measures will be taken in line with procedure,” he added. Meanwhile, the victim’s uncle, Suwondo, hopes the case can be resolved swiftly and thoroughly. “DNA evidence has confirmed the suspect’s involvement in the rape of the SLB Negeri 10 Jakarta student,” Suwondo stated. Previously, the family had urged police to investigate the alleged sexual abuse against a student at Kalideres’ Special Needs School. It is known that a student from SLB Negeri in Pegadungan, Kalideres, West Jakarta, was allegedly impregnated by a classmate. The victim’s mother, Rusyani, said the incident was discovered on May 6, 2024, when her daughter began showing physical changes, including a growing stomach. The child has hearing, speech, and intellectual disabilities. “At first, there was no suspicion because my daughter’s menstruation wasn’t regular. Sometimes it didn’t come for four months, but nothing happened,” she told journalists on May 20. During the previous night before Eid, Rusyani said her daughter was vomiting. Initially, she didn’t suspect anything, but noticed her daughter’s condition worsening, prompting her to take her to a clinic. “I went for an ultrasound and was told my daughter was five months pregnant. I was shocked and couldn’t do anything,” she said. The case was reported in May 2024. The 15-year-old victim has already given birth and dropped out of school due to severe trauma. The victim is suspected to have been impregnated by a classmate who also has a disability.
