Police tighten cell security

JAKARTA: Following the arrest of a person attempting to smuggle drugs into the city police detention center on Thursday, the police announced on Friday plans to step up the checks of cells.

"We will intensify our monitoring and checks of the detention cells," city police spokesman Sr. Comr. Tjiptono said.

Tjiptono said city police chief Insp. Gen. Firman Gani ordered guards at the detention center to check food and drinks brought in by visitors.

A woman, identified only by the initials ST, was arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle 20 grams of shabu-shabu, or crystal methamphetamine, into the center inside some bread.

Police are still looking for another suspect in the incident, identified as AY. Police believe this second suspect provided ST with the drugs. --JP.
