Police ticket 617 motorists

JAKARTA: Jakarta Police ticketed some 617 car drivers and
motorcycle riders in three areas of the city -- Semanggi, Harmoni
and South Jakarta -- on New Year's Eve.

Sr. Comr. Sulistyo Ishak, chief of the city police's traffic
division, said early Thursday that most of the violations
involved lack of documents and not using helmets on the part of
motorcycle riders.

He said that in general the traffic situation across the city
was safe and under control. -- Antara
