Police Test Diploma Paper and Ink Before Arresting Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa

Polda Metro Jaya carried out laboratory tests and examined 94 witnesses and 26 experts during the investigation before arresting two suspects in the case of alleged fake diplomas of Indonesia’s 7th President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), Roy Suryo and Tifauziah Tyassuma, also known as Dr Tifa, on Friday (19/6).

‘Investigators from the Polda Metro Jaya Directorate of General Criminal Investigation have, among other things, examined 94 witnesses. We have also examined 26 experts, both independent experts and experts proposed or requested by the suspects,’ said Polda Metro Jaya Director of General Criminal Investigation, Senior Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, at Polda Metro Jaya on Friday (19/6).

He explained that the experts examined included specialists in public information disclosure, regulatory and legislative affairs, economics, the Press Council, anatomy, physiology from the University of Indonesia’s Faculty of Medicine, epidemiology, and neuroscience. Also examined were language experts, linguists, mass psychology experts, social communication experts, legal sociology experts, digital forensic experts, document forensic experts, cyber digital forensic experts, criminal law experts, and human rights experts.

‘We carried out all of this in order to ensure a balance of rights and obligations for both the victim and the suspects,’ said Iman.

Investigators also conducted laboratory testing on documentary evidence and digital evidence obtained during the investigation process. These tests included paper testing, ink testing, signature testing, emboss testing, watermark testing, and font testing.

‘This was done using several comparators issued by the same faculty at the same time, the same faculty, and the same year. We also tested the digital evidence,’ he said.

Iman also explained that the arrests of Roy and Tifa were part of the process for handing over the suspects and evidence from Polda Metro Jaya’s Directorate of General Criminal Investigation investigators to the Jakarta High Prosecutor’s Office.

‘Furthermore, to ensure the suspects’ presence and availability during this handover process runs smoothly, investigators must confirm the whereabouts and attendance of the suspects,’ said Iman.
