Police temporarily reopen Lenteng Agung Main Road to ease traffic congestion
Police have temporarily reopened Lenteng Agung Main Road in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, to alleviate traffic congestion in the area.
“For traffic heading from Jakarta towards Depok, the road has been temporarily reopened to reduce congestion,” said South Jakarta Traffic Police Unit Chief Kompol Mujiyanto to journalists on Friday.
He added that the road was reopened after the sinkhole area was compacted with sediment by the South Jakarta Water Resources Sub-District Office (SDA) and covered with steel plates.
Currently, the police are awaiting the SDA’s decision on whether the road will be fully or partially closed.
“We hope there are no further collapses. We will wait for the SDA to normalise the area before fully reopening the route,” he said.
Police confirmed no traffic diversions or management measures were in place due to the road collapse on Lenteng Agung Main Road in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, from Thursday evening (28 May) to Friday morning.
The sinkhole measured 3 metres deep and 16 metres long, located after Gang Empang on Lenteng Agung Main Road.
The incident caused traffic congestion from Jakarta to Depok.
Currently, traffic police personnel are monitoring and managing the remaining single-lane traffic. Drivers are proceeding cautiously through the area.
