Police take anti-riot training

JAKARTA (JP): Sixty police officers are taking courses on defusing explosives and combating terrorism with an eye to next year's elections.

The 12-day course for the City Police Mobile Regime (Brimob) was opened by Maj. Gen. Dibyo Widodo here yesterday, Antara reported.

Widodo said that the training started "at the right time" and that it reflected the police's ongoing dedication to security in the capital.

The People's Consultative Assembly is going to convene here in 1998 to elect a president and a vice president.

The police chief also said he expected the incidence of riots and violence using explosives to increase in the future. (14)
