Police suspect 'pocong' panic video staged for content creation in Depok

A video showing the appearance of a ‘pocong’ in Tapos, Depok, went viral on social media. Police suspect the footage was staged by content creators. ‘Police suspect it was for content creation,’ said Cimanggis Police Station Chief Inspector Jupriono when contacted by reporters on Monday (25 May 2026). The incident occurred at 2:00 AM WIB on Sunday (24 May) on H Damon Street, Curug, Cimanggis, Depok. Police have checked the crime scene. ‘Based on CCTV checks of the reporter’s residence, a figure resembling a pocong was indeed spotted around H Damon Street, with the incident recorded around 2:00 AM,’ he said. According to witness accounts, a commotion was heard at the location around 1:45 AM WIB, with no reported losses. ‘The reporter stated that a commotion was heard on H Damon Street around 1:45 AM WIB, with no damages,’ he added. Police confirmed they checked the scene to determine if any criminal activity occurred. ‘The police station’s action was to visit the scene to confirm whether a crime took place,’ he concluded. From the CCTV footage obtained by reporters, two youths were seen leading the ‘pocong’ into an alley. They then appeared to hide from another alley. Shortly after, the two youths ran away, followed by the ‘pocong’ which also fled in panic.
