The West Java Regional Police have disclosed that Taufik Hidayat, the suspect in the confinement and abuse case against a woman with the initials YTR in Bandung Regency, is a repeat offender in a violence case against his former wife. West Java Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Setiawan stated that Taufik had previously been convicted in a similar case that occurred in the city of Bandung and was sentenced to one year and four months in prison. “This suspect is a repeat offender because he previously committed similar violence against a woman and was sentenced to one year and four months in prison. That incident took place in the city of Bandung,” Rudi said during a press conference at the West Java Police Headquarters in Bandung on Friday. Rudi stressed that his party would charge the suspect with multiple articles to ensure he receives a fitting punishment for his actions. “The West Java Police will maximise the application of articles against the suspect. We ask for support from all parties so that the violence committed by the suspect receives a fitting punishment,” he said. In addition, the victim was allegedly confined in a rented room and was not allowed to leave because the door was locked from the outside. “The act was carried out repeatedly because the suspect felt upset and jealous towards the victim,” Rudi stated. He added that investigators are still completing the evidence and coordinating with the West Java High Prosecutor’s Office to optimise the law enforcement process against the suspect. Previously, Taufik Hidayat had been named a suspect in the confinement and abuse case against YTR, which allegedly lasted for about three years in a rented room in the Cileunyi area, Bandung Regency.
