Police Suspect Golfer Jesslyn Taken to Malaysia After Alleged Abduction

The Metro Jakarta Pusat Police have revealed that the woman known as a golf athlete, Jesslyn Wijaya, who was previously reported as an alleged kidnapping victim in the Mangga Besar area, is suspected to have been taken out of Indonesia. The Head of Criminal Investigation for Metro Jakarta Pusat Police, AKBP Roby Heri Saputra, stated that Jesslyn is believed to have been taken to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, a day after the alleged kidnapping was reported to the police. Roby said this information was obtained by investigators based on a passenger manifest received by the police. “The incident occurred on the 13th, then on the 14th the person concerned was in Semarang leaving Indonesia for Kuala Lumpur, based on the manifest we received, together with two other people known to have a family relationship with J,” Roby said in Jakarta on Tuesday, as quoted by Antara. Despite this, Roby stressed that investigators are still looking into whether the reported incident truly constitutes a criminal act. “We from the Metro Jakarta Pusat Police are still carrying out a series of activities to ascertain whether this incident is a criminal act or not,” he said. According to Roby, based on the interim investigation results, there is indeed information that strengthens the suspicion of an incident where someone forcibly took J into a car. “It is true that there was an incident as reported, namely the victim, named J, was forcibly taken into a car by four or five people,” he said. Investigators have also examined several witnesses at the scene. However, efforts to examine CCTV footage have not yielded results because no cameras were found pointing at or recording the location of the incident. “For CCTV at the location, it happened that no CCTV was found pointing at or recording the incident. However, the statements of witnesses at the location did convey that the incident occurred,” Roby said. Currently, investigators are still scheduling the examination of two relatives suspected of travelling abroad with J, including J’s father, to clarify the sequence of events. In addition, the police are still investigating the motive behind the reported incident. Roby stated that so far, investigators have not found any indication of a ransom demand. “We still cannot confirm the motive. There are still several motives we are considering. But so far, there has been no information regarding a ransom demand,” he said. Roby also revealed that the complainant, identified as NA, a friend of J, submitted a written request to withdraw the report on Sunday. Nevertheless, he said the investigation has not been halted. “We from the Criminal Investigation Unit and the Women and Children Protection Unit have not stopped the investigation until we can ensure the safety and security of the victim, and confirm that this incident is not a criminal act,” he said. Meanwhile, the Head of the PPA/PPO Unit at Metro Jakarta Pusat Police, Commissioner Rita Oktavia Shinta, said her unit is continuously coordinating with the Criminal Investigation Unit as the victim is a woman. She added that based on interim findings, her unit has not found any indication of violence against the victim. “We from the PPA/PPO Unit of Metro Jakarta Pusat Police are coordinating with the Criminal Investigation Unit to check the victim’s condition, including her psychological condition. What we see is that there was no violence against the victim,” Rita said.
