Police Form Joint Task Force to Investigate Acid Attack on KontraS Activist
The Jakarta Central Metropolitan Police have established a joint investigative task force to investigate the dangerous liquid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus.
During a press conference on Monday, 16 March 2026, at Jakarta Metropolitan Police headquarters, Metro Jaya Police Regional Chief Inspector General Asep Edi Suheri and Central Jakarta Police Chief Commissioner Reynold Hutagalung presented investigation findings based on analysis of footage from 86 CCTV camera points.
According to the investigation, police have identified four suspected perpetrators who used two motorcycles in the attack. Investigators have collected physical evidence at the crime scene and gathered statements from multiple witnesses. Police have also clarified that photographs of alleged suspect faces that circulated on social media were AI-generated fabrications with no evidentiary value.
The investigation into the attack on the human rights activist continues as the joint task force pursues leads to identify and apprehend the perpetrators responsible for the assault.
