Police summon more Newmont officials

JAKARTA: The National Police have summoned two more officials of PT Newmont Minahasa Raya for questioning in connection with the alleged pollution of Buyat Bay by the United States-owned mining company.

The National Police's Director of Special Crimes Brig. Gen. Suharto said they had sent summonses to the company's environment manager and site manager to appear for questioning on Friday.

"We will charge them as suspects if we find enough evidence of their involvement in the pollution," Suharto said.

Newmont spokesman Kasan Mulyono confirmed the company had received the summons for environment manager Jery Kojansow. -- JP
