Police are taking action following a night ride involving hundreds of motorcyclists at the Bundaran HI roundabout in Central Jakarta that triggered severe traffic congestion. They will summon the organisers and social media influencers involved in the activity.

“Yes, there was no permit. They will be summoned to the Menteng Police Station,” said Central Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Unit Head Kompol Ari Setyo on Monday (27/7/2026).

Ari stated that both the organisers and the influencers could face sanctions. Besides disturbing public order, they also did not have a permit to hold the event. “Yes, they can be subject to action. They disturbed public order and had no permit,” he said.

The night ride event was held on Friday evening, 24 July 2026, coinciding with rush hour. Traffic along Sudirman-Thamrin was severely jammed as a result of the activity. Several motorcyclists participating in the convoy were seen not wearing helmets. Some also did not have licence plates. A number of motorbikes appeared to have been modified, and the sound of the engines was noisy along the streets.

The swarm of motorcyclists crowding the Bundaran HI area went viral on social media. From circulating video recordings, the group of motorcyclists filled the entire road, even breaking through into the Transjakarta bus lane. Several vehicles passing through the Bundaran HI area appeared trapped amidst a ‘sea’ of motorcyclists. Traffic was at a standstill that night.

“At 23:52 WIB, Metro Jaya Regional Police officers dispersed a group of motorcyclists gathered in front of Sarinah Plaza, who were using three lanes of the road, causing congestion and disturbing other road users,” wrote the TMC Polda Metro account on Saturday (25/7). The situation continued to the Bundaran HI roundabout in Central Jakarta at 00:40 WIB on Saturday (25/7). Police also urged the motorcyclists to leave the location.
