Indonesian National Police (Polri), through its International Relations Division (Divhubinter), has submitted a red notice for preacher Sheikh Ahmad Al Misry (SAM). He is the suspect in a case of alleged sexual harassment of a santri.

Head of International Affairs at the National Central Bureau (NCB) Interpol Indonesia, Commissioner Ricky Purnama, confirmed that the red notice request is currently being processed via the Interpol portal mechanism.

“The red notice submission is currently in process through the Interpol portal,” said Ricky Purnama to reporters on Friday (8/5/2026).

In addition to the red notice submission, Ricky stated that Polri is engaging in intensive communication with authorities in Egypt. This step is aimed at verifying the suspect SAM’s citizenship status.

“We are also communicating with Egyptian authorities to validate his citizenship status,” he explained.

Ricky assured that suspect SAM has officially become an Indonesian citizen (WNI). This status was obtained through a legal channel, namely naturalisation.

“If his WNI status has been validated (approved), through the naturalisation route with a proposal as a mixed marriage partner with an Indonesian woman,” Ricky clarified.

Currently, said Ricky, the focus of Indonesia’s NCB Interpol is to ensure whether the individual still holds Egyptian citizenship or not. This validation is deemed important for further international legal coordination.

Designated as Suspect

The Directorate of PPA and PPO Criminal Acts at Bareskrim Polri has designated preacher Sheikh Ahmad Al Misry as a suspect in the alleged sexual harassment case. This is a manifestation of Polri’s commitment to protecting victims.

“Based on the case review conducted by investigators on the basis of police report number: LP/B/586/XI/2025/SPKT/Bareskrim Polri dated 28 November 2025, the investigators have designated Mr SAM as a suspect,” said Head of Public Information at the Polri Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, to reporters on Friday (24/4).

The reporter in this case is initialled MMA. Investigators have issued a Notification of Investigation Progress (SP2HP) to the reporter, who is also the victim. The letter was officially signed by the investigator on 22 April 2026.

“The investigation progress has been notified to the reporter or victim through SP2HP number B/66/IV/Res.1.24/2026/Dittipid PPA and PPO to Mr MMA on 22 April 2026, signed by the investigator,” he explained.

Sheikh Ahmad Al Misry Speaks Out

Preacher Sheikh Ahmad Al Misry has spoken out regarding the alleged santri harassment case. In a video uploaded to his Instagram account, Ahmad recounted that since 15 March, he travelled to Egypt to accompany his mother.

“I, Sheikh Ahmad Al Misry, departed for Egypt on 15 March 2026 and arrived in Egypt on 16 March 2026 to accompany my mother who was ill and underwent surgery on 17 March 2026,” he said.

He stated that he only received a police summons on 30 March 2026. At that time, said Ahmad, he was summoned by the police as a witness.

“So the police summons came after I had been in Egypt for about 15 days. I thank Bareskrim and the investigators for giving me the opportunity to provide testimony online,” he stated.

“And this police summons was as a witness, not as a suspect, as many people have imagined or spread around. Secondly, the accusation of harassment against the santri is not true,” Ahmad added.
