Police Submit Red Notice for Sheikh Ahmad Al Misry

The Indonesian National Police’s International Relations Division has submitted a Red Notice request to Interpol for Sheikh Ahmad Al Misry, the suspect in a sexual harassment case. Head of the International Affairs Section of the Interpol NCB Secretariat, Commissioner Ricky Purnama, stated that the fugitive application was made after Sheikh Ahmad Al Misry was believed to no longer be in Indonesia. “The Red Notice application is currently being processed through the Interpol portal,” he said when contacted via text message on Friday (8/5). Ricky confirmed that the suspect now holds Indonesian citizenship status, obtained through a naturalization process. “His Indonesian citizenship status has been validated through naturalization as the spouse in a mixed marriage with an Indonesian woman,” he explained. Nevertheless, investigators are also communicating intensively with Egyptian law enforcement authorities to confirm whether the individual still holds Egyptian citizenship. “We are also communicating with Egyptian authorities to validate his citizenship status,” he concluded. Previously, Sheikh Ahmad Al Misry was officially named a suspect in the alleged sexual harassment case against students by the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency. Head of Public Information for the Police Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, said the suspect designation was made by investigators from the Directorate of PPA and PPO Criminal Acts following a case review on Wednesday (22/4). “Investigators have designated SAM (Sheikh Ahmad Al Misry) as a suspect,” he told reporters on Friday (24/3). Trunoyudo explained that the suspect designation had been communicated by investigators to MMA, the victim, and the reporter to the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency. According to statements from the victims’ legal representative, Benny Jehadu, Sheikh Ahmad Al Misry frequently appeared on television as a judge for Quran recitation competitions. This indecent act case has affected more than one victim. The legal representative stated that all his clients have suffered profound psychological trauma as a result of the incident.
