Police strive to improve image

JAKARTA (JP): Jakarta Police have planned to turn the guard post in front of the headquarters into a public service booth to receive public complaints and reports in an attempt to help improve their image, the city police chief said on Monday.

The booth would be served by a plainclothes police officer, Maj. Gen. Noegroho Djajoesman said. "No uniforms for those in charge of the service booth."

The post has recently been put under renovation with a colorful makeshift tent erected on an adjacent site as a temporary guard post.

Noegroho also said the change of the post function was also aimed at increasing the officers' professionalism in serving the public.

He said the subordinates should be accustomed to dressing as civilians but working as law enforcers.

However, the two-star general did not mention when the booth would be in operation.(emf)
