Police strengthen crime prevention following house fire incident in Paciran
Lamongan, East Java — The Lamongan Police Department has strengthened preventive measures following an incident involving the burning of a house belonging to a suspected perpetrator of a stabbing incident in Tlogosadang Village, Kecamatan Paciran, Lamongan Regency, to maintain a conducive security situation.
“The measures we have strengthened include increased patrols, enhanced communication with community leaders, and a persuasive approach to residents to prevent similar incidents from recurring,” said Operations Section Head of Lamongan Police Department Commissioner Budi Santoso in Lamongan on Sunday.
He explained that these reinforcements were carried out through coordination with village officials and relevant stakeholders in Kecamatan Paciran to mitigate the potential for further conflict.
In addition, authorities have conducted intensive situational monitoring through patrols on Jalan Raya Deandles, specifically at the border between Tlogosadang in Lamongan and Banyutengah in Gresik, as well as at the Panceng Border Monument between Gresik and Tlogosadang in Lamongan.
The Lamongan Police Department has deployed 90 personnel comprised of combined members from Lamongan Police Department, functional units, and police stations within Rayon VI jurisdiction.
By way of background, the house fire incident is believed to be a consequence of a stabbing incident that occurred during a dawn patrol activity in Campurejo Village, Kecamatan Panceng, Gresik, on Saturday, 28 February. In the stabbing incident, two local youths sustained injuries from sharp weapon cuts.
The suspected perpetrator, identified as S (45), a resident of Kecamatan Paciran, Lamongan Regency, has been apprehended by Gresik Police Department personnel for further legal proceedings.
The house belonging to the suspected perpetrator in Tlogosadang Village, Kecamatan Paciran, Lamongan, is believed to have been torched by individuals deemed to have retaliated over the stabbing incident.
In the fire incident, one residential unit along with furnishings and various electronic devices were reported destroyed. There were no fatalities; however, material losses are estimated at hundreds of millions of rupiah.
Nevertheless, as of now, Lamongan Police Department has not yet designated any suspects in the alleged arson case. Investigation proceedings are ongoing with the gathering of witness testimonies and supporting physical evidence.
